#84: Military Outreach Mission to Chile!
Mija and I recently returned from a 12-day AoM-Military Outreach mission trip to Chile, and we want to thank you for your prayers and faithful support. Because of your partnership, AoM was able to accompany two global Christian military ministries in a trip that was both challenging and deeply rewarding.
The mission was organized by the Association for Christian Conferences, Training and Service (ACCTS), alongside the International Association of Evangelical Chaplains (IAEC). Special thanks to Army Colonel (Retired) Andy and wife, Grace, MacLean for organizing the trip. It was also a joy to get to know and serve with Army Brigadier General/Chaplain (Retired) Doug and wife, Nancy, Lee of the IAEC as well as Navy Captain (Retired) Terry and wife, Susan, Wichert of ACCTS.
Together, our goal was to strengthen relationships with the Chilean Military Christian Fellowship and military chaplains, encourage unity among believers, and support ongoing discipleship and evangelism within the military community.
We were warmly welcomed by our Chilean brothers and sisters in Christ, who showed extraordinary hospitality throughout our visit.
We shared meals, prayed together, and discussed how our ministries can work more closely to share the gospel and to encourage those serving in uniform. It was clear that the Lord had prepared hearts well in advance of our arrival.
One highlight of the trip for me was the opportunity to speak at the Carabineros’ Non-Commissioned (NCO) Officers Academy. The Carabineros are Chile’s national police force.
My presentation, Serving God & Country, addressed professional excellence, values, and worldview to an audience that included Catholic, Protestant, and non-believing NCOs. I shared how a biblical worldview shaped my own military and civilian service and concluded with John 3:16. The students were attentive, and the school leadership and head chaplain expressed sincere appreciation for the message.
Our team also met with senior Chilean Army, Navy, and Carabineros leaders. These generals and admirals demonstrated the importance of their Christian faith to their lives and service. Their questions centered on how to live faithfully as Christian leaders, reinforcing the need for continued encouragement and sound biblical grounding within military leadership.
As with many mission trips, there were challenges. Our team was exposed to the Oropouche fever, a mosquito- and midge-borne illness common in parts of South America. Seven of the eight of us contracted the virus. Although we experienced COVID-like symptoms and had to miss some activities, the mission continued, and we are grateful that recovery is nearly complete for everyone. Despite these difficulties, the work God intended was accomplished.
Looking ahead, AoM is excited about what the Lord is doing. In 2026, we anticipate increased military ministry activities—both in person and online—in the US, Latin America, Europe, and Africa. God continues to open doors, and your prayers and generosity make it possible for us to walk through them faithfully.
Thank you for standing with us in prayer and support. We are deeply grateful for your partnership in this ministry.
God bless and Merry Christmas!
In Christ,
Doug
